Grrrr….

Posted in Stamp and Huff at 11:47 am by Jules

I am so tired of spending my days with people half my age. Our frames of reference are such tangents. Many of them disgust me and I’m not sure why. After all, they are- for the most part- still children and this is their playground. I often find myself thinking really snarky cruel comments like; while I’m glad that you’re in the library and not a. date raping co-eds and/or b. forcing fellow boys to play in your drink to the death games- you still need to shut the fuck up. And wow, that’s great you have an IPod- I don’t need to share in your musical experiences, however, so turn it DOWN. Obviously, I tolerate stupidity and useless random noise equally well.

I’ve also found it very hard to talk with professors who are, age wise, my peers. I fear my attempts at conversation are seen as brown nosing- when really, I’m just lonely.

But, at the end of the day, I’ll keep my mouth shut and swallow more Prozac… with a steel eye and tight jaw.

I don’t know…I’ve met some of the lower life-forms you discuss…but then again, I’ve worked with a variety of people, older, younger, etc., and I don’t think “moron” and “asshole” are always related to “age”. Actually, sometimes, it gets worse as they get older. See, e.g., most of the lawyers I’ve worked for. They have the mentality of college sophomores with the added power of years of no one telling them no.

Perhaps you should show your disgust…then there might be hope for them?

    Jules…………
I hate to say this…….I hate those snarky young people too…..that song by John Mayer - NO SUCH THING……..I just laugh……..such youthful musings…..and so many of those you see in school as SO spoiled and pampered and clueless and their parents have made them into “precious” “entitled” “loved unconditionally”……I fear that we cannot escape these feelings as we “mature”……makes me begin to undestand why so many “geezers” are so crabby. Hope your family is doing ok………I’m a-prayin………(and for the end of all major-league headaches - literal and figurative)

ps I once made one little fucker turn his iPod DOWn on a plane because all of us around him had to listen to the white noise coming out of his earbuds.

I often know how you feel. I don’t mind the kids I teach since they typically behave since I get to give them grades…but it sure is tough to have conversations with most of my peers in the department as they are so young and have such very different lifestyles. I know we can’t relate as they have no idea about being a working mom….and a single working mom at that. And the same is true of most of my professors….several are younger than me and also without kids, etc. And than its not really appropriate to chat much with those that are my age….although now that I’m in my last year some of those barriers are coming down.

I’m sure this is all WAY more information than you wanted in your journal. My real intention in posting a comment was to say…..call me when you’re lonely….chances are good I am too.
