It didn’t come out that great;

Dear Anyone Who Cares,

I’m having the worst time. In the Desert. Its very hot and because of this the gas tank on my plane went ka-boom. So I’m stranded. And I’m about to pass out.

Ok, so boyfriend and I killed two bottles of wine IN A NIGHT about two months ago…. and me on an empty stomach. Sigh, puking is just NOT a good look…

Here are some of the things I scratched down at some point during the night….

The new America waits on a tax stimulus refund or an inheritance from a dead relative. (wow, hammered and negative!)

Leah’s been having a plethora of tests done at school. Don’t really want to talk about it in this forum just yet. The short of it is that she’s way behind in reading and no one has solutions for me. Just more and more theories of bullshit. I’m quite certain that the catalyst for me swilling so much wine was one of many school meetings I have had, one that very day. Here’s what I wrote about that… in some sort of illegible chardonnay script…

What if she’s me? Forever doomed as “potential”. What if all these mispronunciations are the emancipations of me? Is she going to say every word wrong- just like me?

What if all the words she knows are rote?

What do I have to offer as all my thoughts are whirlpools and winds of “is this right’?

Standardized tests are bullshit. How sad I wrote this on the back of an application to PA School (left over as scratch paper).

Sheesh. Maybe I should drink more…

You bastards. Nilla Wafer Cakesters? One the one hand, you’ve bested my two mortal enemies; the Twinkie and the Oatmeal Cream Pie. On the other, 15% of my daily fat… 10 fucking grams… in five, maybe six bites. I hate you. I take comfort in knowing your place in Hell’s Buffet line is right next to mine….

Boudreaux was terribly overweight, so his doctor put him on a diet. Doc said, “I want you to eat regularly for 2 days, then skip a day, and repeat this procedure for 2 weeks. The next time I see you, you should have lost at least 5 pounds!”

When Boudreaux returned, he shocked the doctor by having lost 50 lbs!

“That’s amazing!’ the doctor said, “Did you follow my instructions?”

Boudreaux nodded..”Yah, I’ll tell you though Doc, I thought I wuz gonna drop dead on dat 3rd day!”

“From the hunger, you mean?” asked the doctor.

Boudreaux: “Hell no, it wuz from from all dat darn skippin!’

Do I make a point?

Tyler and Leah each got $25 bucks for Easter from my dad. Go kids, Go dad. We’ve not done anything with the cash and as the school book fair is this week I suggested that the kids spend away…up to the twenty and five.

Blah blah… conversation ending with me yelling about being responsible…. Tyler’s lost his check. Yeah… how and why would a ten year old lose a check? FROM his grandparents????

He called his dad to see if he’d brought it over there. Not found. Here’s another thing… said dad can’t remember if he put the check in the kid’s bank account or not. Wha? You don’t fucking remember depositing a check in the past two weeks? In an account that’s not yours? From your ex father in law? But I digress into the things-past-my-nose-don’t-matter-world that the ex lives in….

Leah has hers. Do I not let Tyler spend a damn thing? Or do I at least give him last week’s and this week’s allowance? I’m going to make him call my dad and find out if the check’s been cashed…. and apologize for asking, but, what then?

10 year old genius, part deux

Posted in The Latest at 3:44 pm by Jules

What I wrote to the music teacher….

Tyler’s very self conscious of expressing his artist side. I think the approach of exposures to many different types of culture will make you a more rounded grown up (who’s better able to understand his patients…even though research physicians have limited patient/doctor interactions….) may be the best way to talk to him about this. He is very analytical and needs a concrete reason.

What she responded…

He was better today. He even helped a student with special needs play the xylophone without being asked. During the movement (dance) part of class, he was reluctant to take his turn, but finally did after I told him he needed to. Hopefully connecting lessons to his future patients will help him be more confident. He’s so smart and very good at playing instruments. I want so much for him to enjoy the other areas of music class. We’ll see how things go…

I haven’t heard anything else- good or bad!

In one of our morning walks to school, I told him he had to at least give a semblance of dancing. That not dancing and standing there with his arms crossed was going to make him stick out more than dancing like a fool. Really, I could give a shit that Tyler do some goofy ass dance, but, all in all we’re just another brick in the wall and must trudge on in a unified society march.

Suggestions?

On just how YOU’D convince a 10 year old genius that Irish Folk dancing is an essential part of being a well rounded adult?

Jules,

I hope you’re have a good Monday. I wanted to let you know that Tyler has been having some issues in music class lately. Last Wednesday, he and a another boy were not participating, tried to hide, and had negative attitudes. I reminded them in class that they needed to participate, but that didn’t help much. After class, Tyler, the other boy, and I talked with his homeroom teacher about their behavior. I told the boys I might need to talk to their parents. I told them I wouldn’t that time because I hadn’t warned them about that in class, but I told them next time I would be contacting their parents.

Today, the class learned an Irish folk dance. Tyler really didn’t want to participate and tried to hide again. When I asked him why he didn’t want to, he said he couldn’t dance and it had nothing to do with what he wants to be when he grows up. I couldn’t get him to participate very much during the entire time period. This is the second time he’s said music/dancing doesn’t matter because of what he wants as a career. I’ve tried to help him understand that it can just be fun and also that sometimes we need to learn things we may not like, but that we need to learn them anyway. We may even find that we like them.

I’m not sure how to help Tyler enjoy music and have a better attitude. If you can think of something that might help, I’d appreciate it. I think just talking to him about it might help.

Thanks,
Tyler’s music teacher
